Varna University of Management (Bulgaria) hosted an intensive training programme on “Management and Entrepreneurship in Cultural and Creative Industries” between 24-28 April 2023. The event was attended by 15 students and 7 professors from 5 countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Serbia and Romania. This interdisciplinary training, carried out in the context of the project “FENICE: Fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in the cultural and creative industries through interdisciplinary training”, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, focused on the specificities of cultural and creative industries. Trainees acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to set up their own company and effectively run a creative-based business, and visits to local cultural institutions challenged participants to critically analyse different business models.
Within the FENICE project, four 30 and 15 hour training courses were developed, consisting of the respective curricula and educational materials. These courses can be integrated in the curricula of higher and vocational education in the areas of management and economics, as well as in the arts and humanities, duly adapted to the needs of students and professionals. The themes and contents were developed by an international interdisciplinary team of experts and researchers, considering diverse perspectives and the multifaceted nature of cultural and creative industries. The curricula and educational materials are available on a freely accessible electronic platform, allowing all interested parties – in particular higher and vocational education institutions – to integrate them into their educational offer.
FENICE also offers a model of collaboration between higher education institutions and enterprises to stimulate the creation of enterprises in the cultural and creative industries, through the incubation of new business ideas and the promotion of an entrepreneurial spirit. The model describes viable partnership proposals applicable to both public and private higher education institutions.
