Project Description:
The project aims to reinforce and modernise REMIT’s scientific infrastructure by upgrading its shared research facilities and supporting the continuous development of the Laboratory of Digital Technologies and Robotics. The investment will enhance the Unit’s technological capacity through the acquisition of advanced equipment for robotics, collaborative digital research, scientific data management and visual documentation, ensuring that the existing research infrastructure continues to meet the requirements of internationally competitive research.
By strengthening the technological resources available to researchers, the project will support the development of innovative methodologies in artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, digital transformation, cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. The investment will also contribute to the sustainability of REMIT’s research infrastructure, support the integration of new researchers and talent retention, and reinforce the Unit’s capacity for interdisciplinary research, advanced training and knowledge transfer.
Objectives
The overall objectives of this investment are to:
- Strengthen and modernise REMIT’s shared scientific infrastructure by upgrading the technological resources available in the Laboratory of Digital Technologies and Robotics.
- Enhance the Unit’s capacity to undertake high-quality interdisciplinary research through the acquisition of advanced equipment for robotics, collaborative experimentation, scientific data management and digital research methodologies.
- Improve the reliability, security and long-term sustainability of the Unit’s research infrastructure by expanding data storage capacity and supporting good practices in scientific data management.
- Reinforce collaborative research, advanced training and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange through the provision of digital platforms that support experimentation, simulation, visualisation and hybrid scientific collaboration.
- Support the development, validation and dissemination of innovative technological solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, digital transformation, cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, while strengthening REMIT’s capacity to attract researchers and participate in nationally and internationally competitive research projects.
Expected Outcomes
The investment is expected to strengthen REMIT’s scientific and technological capacity by providing a modern, resilient and collaborative research infrastructure capable of supporting advanced experimental research across the Unit’s strategic areas. The upgraded facilities will improve the efficiency of experimental workflows, collaborative research activities, scientific data management and digital knowledge creation, contributing to higher-quality scientific outputs and increasing the Unit’s ability to respond to emerging research challenges.
The project will also reinforce REMIT’s capacity to develop and validate innovative technological solutions in robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies, while improving the documentation and dissemination of research related to cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. The enhanced infrastructure will support the recruitment and integration of new researchers as well as talent retention, strengthen advanced training opportunities for postgraduate students, increase participation in competitive national and European research projects, and reinforce knowledge transfer through closer collaboration with industry, public authorities and society. Overall, the investment will contribute to the long-term sustainability, international competitiveness and scientific excellence of REMIT.
Project implemented under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) – a nationally implemented program, with an execution period until 2026, which aims to implement a set of reforms and investments designed to restore sustained economic growth after the pandemic, reinforcing the objective of convergence with Europe over the next decade.
